Our cadets recently had the opportunity to form space engineering teams and design their own re-entry capsules in celebration of the Artemis II astronauts returning to Earth.

The four teams, Apollo 1312, Mercury 1, C.A.S.T and Space Raiders, constructed and then tested their capsules for astronaut safety, heat friction, controlled descent, and splashdown recovery.

There was plenty of innovation, teamwork, and applied materials science on display throughout.
The winning team, Mercury 1, successfully designed a self-righting capsule on splashdown, allowing for safe and efficient astronaut egress. Each team member will receive an Artemis II mission patch.
A great example of STEM in action.
