Honouring the Past: Our Cadets and Staff Attend Southend’s VE Day 80 Beacon Lighting Ceremony

On Thursday 8th May, cadets and staff from 1312 (City of Southend-on-Sea) Squadron proudly attended the Southend City Beacon Lighting Ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

VE (Victory in Europe) Day commemorates the momentous day in 1945 when the Second World War ended in Europe. It honours the courage and sacrifice of those who served on the front line and on the home front, bringing about peace after years of conflict.

As part of the nationwide celebrations, a ceremonial beacon was lit in Southend to symbolise the light of peace that emerged from the darkness of war. Our cadets stood alongside members of the local community, veterans, civic leaders, and other uniformed organisations in remembrance and reflection.

It was a privilege for our squadron to be part of such a poignant event, helping to ensure the legacy of VE Day lives on for future generations.
