Over the past month, cadets at 1312 (City of Southend-on-Sea) Squadron have been hard at work honing their first aid skills through a series of successful training sessions.
In September, we launched our Essential First Aid (EFA) course, a foundational programme designed to equip cadets with vital life-saving skills. A total of 19 cadets completed this course, learning essential techniques such as CPR, recovery positions, and dealing with various medical emergencies. EFA provides a thorough introduction to basic first aid, ensuring cadets are ready to act confidently in emergency situations, both at the Squadron and in their everyday lives.
Building on the success of the EFA course, this past weekend saw the delivery of our Youth First Aid (YFA) course. YFA is the next step in first aid training and delves deeper into the skills and knowledge cadets gained in EFA. In addition to reinforcing core life-saving techniques, the YFA course introduces cadets to more advanced first aid topics such as the management of bleeding, fractures, burns, and other serious injuries. We are proud to announce that 9 cadets successfully passed the YFA course after a weekend of hard work and dedication.
The first aid training offered by the Squadron is a crucial part of the Air Cadets’ commitment to developing well-rounded individuals. These courses not only build valuable skills but also instil a sense of responsibility and readiness in cadets, preparing them to handle real-life emergencies with confidence and care.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and cadets who volunteered their weekends to teach and support both courses. Their expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality training ensured that every cadet received the best possible learning experience.
Congratulations to all the cadets who participated and passed their respective courses. We look forward to seeing these newly qualified cadets apply their skills within the Squadron and beyond.
